Reverence could also be manipulation: How to deal with a sycophant

As a man, don’t let the praise of men get into your head. Because it could be a trick—It could be flattery. When you let it get into your head, it clogs up your logic, turning you into a puppet of your flatterer. Excessive praise is a trick of the sycophants. It’s a bait to lure you into servitude. It gets your ego drunk with the delusion of power, giving them the opportunity to milk the hell out of ya!

You see, sycophants are people who praise you excessively even when you aren’t deserving of it. And this is to motivate you to be their slave. This impels you to favor them more than you favor the people who are actually useful to you. A sycophant rarely has an opinion of his own. He doesn’t rebel even if those who are superior to him are in the wrong. Can’t blame his toady self, if he does rebel, how then, will he get undeserved merit from his master(s)?

Above all, you must be able to distinguish flattery from genuine praise so you won’t fall victim to exploitation. This is a little hard to discern because you aren’t a psychic. For one could mistake genuine praise for flattery or vice versa. And this is why one must handle every praise received with logic.

When someone praises you, look at it logically and not from an emotional point of view, “do I deserve this?”  – never let your naive self get high with felicity so as to avoid exploitation.

Dealing with a sycophant is quite easy, just avoid them. And if you can’t avoid them, ignore their praises. They simply aren’t in your life to make you a better version of yourself. They are simply in your life to get something. They will always want to boost your ego by sugarcoating things around you, ultimately, to your own peril. They will never tell you the truth, don’t ever expect constructive criticism from them for they don’t want to lose the goodies they will get from worshipping you.

Nonetheless, sycophants can’t be trusted, they are most times a slave of two or more masters, you can never win their loyalty. What’s more, If you make the mistake of lifting one, even more than self, he would leave you in the lurch.
